Solvent quality - i.kovacs - 11-17-2014 12:01 PM

We have received this question to askthechemist@thalesnano.com:

I will start to work with the Cube reactor that have in the laboratory and I would like to know some information about what kind of solvent can be used.
It is necessary to be HPLC solvents? Or common solvents are ok?

You may use normal solvents used in you laboratory without any problem. The pumps sealing is sensitive to hydrocarbons (hexane, toluene etc.), so if you use these solvents continuously, it may reduce the life time of the pump. You will see problems on the pressure building. I would recommend washing out your pump with 2-propanol after using it with a hydrocarbon like solvent.
