Substitution Reactions

Substitution reactions are well known and longtime applied reactions for building in or replacing function groups on aromatic or aliphatic organic molecules. Depending on the behavior of the leaving group, the reactions can be performed in a catalytic or non-catalytic environment. These reactions are good solutions to create new molecules and even whole structure libraries.

Substitution reactions with ThalesNano’s reactors

The production rate of continuous flow reactions depends only on the longevity of the catalyst, or when the reaction goes in non-catalytic circumstances, the productivity depends only on time. Thus the flow chemical solutions for these reactions can be industrially interesting.

Thalesnano’s H-Cube Pro™ reactor can maintain 150°C temperature and 100 bar pressure in liquid flow system. The catalyst cartridges (CatCarts) used with it can be filled with more than 100 types of catalysts, while the online linked ThalesNano Gas Module (for external gas supply from cylinders up to 200 bar) can controll 13 different gases, allowing numerous variations of triphasic systems to be created, therefore the number of potential substitution reactions is very high.

ThalesNano’s Phoenix Flow Reactor can be heated up to even higher temperatures (up to 450°C). With this parameter space the application scale also rises. One of these applications is a fluorine-amine group exchange reaction we fulfilled with a stainless steel loop at 250°C.
